Former owner's name in pencil on first blank leaf. Gilt titling on spine and upper board, blind-stamped border decoration, original decorative endpapers. Index. All edges gilt. Frontis with tissue is photo of Albert L. Babcock, a prominent Billings businessman and Montana state senator from 1894-98. Other photos include Roosevelt Arch, Emigrant Peak, a haying party, and a variety of photo portraits. First section gives an overview of Montana history from the mid-1500s. before zeroing in on the counties that comprise the Yellowstone River Valley. Includes histories of each county with settlements, historic events, politics, agriculture, Indigenous reservations, Custer, the Bozeman Trail, Northern Pacific Railroad, and much more. The remainder of the book consists of biographical sketches with histories of prominent families and individuals. The volume ends with a section on the press in each county.
