Oblong octavo (22 cm), unpaginated. Black boards with silver titling, pictorial jacket. No text, illustrated throughout with color photos taken of the countryside around Gerber's home. Jacket has light edge wear, boards are bumped at head and tail of spine. Gerber recalls he printed one or two dozen of these photobooks to give to friends. The title comes from a poem he wrote called, "On My Seventieth Birthday," which was published in his collection Sailing through Cassiopeia. The title phrase reads: "Oak tree, / Joy of my eye / that reaches in so many directions - / are the birds that fly from your branches / any closer to heaven?" Gerber, who co-founded the literary magazine Sumac with the late author Jim Harrison, has won numerous awards for his poetry, including the Mark Twain Award for distinguished contributions to Midwestern literature (Wikipedia). Dust jacket present. First Edition.
